About Rich Baxter: I am a globally recognized award-winning educator and Principal of Innovation in Education, a blog dedicated to innovating education while always serving our students first. I am a classroom teacher first, my early career working for the Hong Kong Education Department, and exploring the border with Mainland China on my mountain bike, before getting my teaching degree from OISE in 2004.

As an art teacher, I have been innovating award-winning programs ever since, and I am a proud member of the Reimagine Education Awards – the ‘Oscars of Education’ – as a Judge, Speaker and Competitor. I currently teach Grade 7/8 in Toronto, and in my spare time, when I’m not out mountain biking, I am building and testing a Learn2Earn platform, scaling the Bootstrapping Checklist, and sharing outcomes and supporting like-minded educators dedicated to improving access to quality education for all.

The Bootstrapping Checklist, a non-profit, open-innovation project which fosters social-entrepreneurship among students through an immersive, collaborative project-based learning initiative, was first Shortlisted for the 2016 Teaching Delivery category at the Wharton QS Stars Reimagine Education Awards and presented at the awards both in December 2016 and again in November 2017 in Philadelphia.

Most recently, the program won 2021 Bronze in the USA & Canada Regional Award at Reimagine Education and we are grateful for their continued support.

“At Reimagine Education, we’re keen to reward pedagogical initiatives that are equipping students with the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st-century economy, valuing as we do the positive formative effects that education should have on employability. In ensuring that students learn – from a young age, and in an engaging, carefully-conceived way – the modes of thinking and hard skills necessary to foster entrepreneurial success, The Bootstrapping Checklist deserves this global recognition. In particular, our Judging Panel commend it for its integration with GitHub, which is a shining example of the project’s efforts to integrate classroom learning with contemporary innovation tools; and its focus on learning as a social, collaborative experience.” Reimagine Education Steering Committee, October 2020

Thank you!
